On May 17th at 9:30 PM, the Cultural Association Arcanto will stage in the Teatro San Salvatore “Vision of agony“, a lyrical-theatrical play freely adapted from “Dialogues of the Carmelites” by Georges Bernanos.
The story of the Carmelites of Compiègne (a small town northeast of Paris) during the French Revolution remained unknown for more than a century. It drew the attention of the writer Gertrud von Le Fort in 1931, when he wrote the novel “The Last to the gallows”. In 1948, Georges Bernanos published the novel “Dialogues of the Carmelites” by Poulenc, an inspiration for his famous opera. The martyrdom of these sisters is a tribute to the courage and martyrdom of mothers, wives and women who live everyday the martyrdom of violence, while the society is still detracting the phenomenon.
The show is made with the music of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Rossini, Francis Poulenc and Giovanna Giovannini, directed by Antonello Pocetti, the musical direction of Giovanna Giovannini, and the female voices of the choir Arcanto: Marta Abatematteo, Anconelli Marisa, Francesca Bruni, Cristina Channels, Simonetta Gamberini, Gloria Giovannini Valeria Giuliani, Francesca Lateana, Anna Mele, Cynthia Russillo, Silvia Salfi.
