Two years after its first edition, taking place in Bologna, the “International Guitar Competition Maurizio Biasini – cciMB” comes to Basel, Switzerland – another city to which the physicist and musician Maurizio Biasini was strictly tied. The contest is dedicated to the physicist of international celebrity and the passionate guitarist Maurizio Biasini, with the aim to identify and encourage young talented classical guitarists who are at the beginning of their professional activity. The competition is biennial and takes place, alternatively, in three relevant cities with a great musical tradition: Bologna, Basel and San Francisco, which are also the different places where Maurizio Biasini lived with his family. This second edition, organized by cciMB Association in collaboration with the Musik-Akademie of Basel, has seen the participation of 14 young guitarists of 11 different nationalities. On Sunday 15th September, the crowded Hans Huber-Saal of the Basel City Casino hosted the awarding ceremony of the three finalists of the competition: Emanuele Buono was awarded the first prize: CHF 12.000 and a concert in the prestigious Rising Stars series (2014-2015) of the Allgemeine Musikgesellschaft, while Fabian Cardozo and Marko Topchii received ex aequo the third prize of CHF 3.000.
