The visual, performing and media arts Department holds musicology material ranging from Gregorian chant to the music of today, systematic musicology, music theory, music pedagogy and Italian, European and non-European ethnomusicology. Also, the Music Section of the Department has developed advanced capabilities in the field of repertorization and digitalisation of musical scores and documents, in both written and audio forms. The Department also organises and promotes events concerning art in all its forms, thanks to the work of two research centres:
– La Soffitta organises courses aimed at both students and the general public covering various themes, genres and experiences, and uniting performances and opportunities to deepen understanding of theory and artistic practice. The concert seasons organised by the centre span centuries of music history and also offer presentations of musicological publications.
– CIMES Centre organises educational events and workshops open to the public, involving artists, scholars and experts in various disciplines.
