Twenty-two students from the high-school Liceo Musicale Lucio Dalla in Bologna, accompanied by two teachers, will soon leave for a one-week exchange student programme with their counterparts at the Department of Music of Cègèp de Saint-Laurent in Montreal, Canada.
During their stay, they will be attending masterclasses and advanced courses to improve their abilities to play the musical instruments they already study.
Furthermore, a specific Italian-Canadian string Orchestra will be focusing on pieces stemming from traditional Italian Art Music. For this special occasion, M° André Gagnon has composed a piece that will be prepared and performed by the two Orchestras in Montreal and later in Bologna.
In Montreal, Italian students will be staying with host families from 22nd to 29th of September, while Canadian fellows will be in Bologna from 26th of May to 2nd of June 2018.
Studying in a foreign country is a great opportunity for students. They have the chance to compare different teaching methods in regard to music, strengthen their linguistic skills, improve in music and adapt to the customs and habits of an international environment.
The city of Montreal boasts the title of UNESCO City of Design and is therefore part of the network of Creative Cities as Bologna is.
As a result, the project was selected to benefit grants from the call for the internationalization of the Bolognese music 2017/18 to help musicians, artists and other workers to perform on the international scene, by participating in festivals, tours and exchange programmes.
