Even though the FIFA World Cup has just begun the JoyCut, a duo from Bologna, has already won its own World Cup. Visa, FIFA’s official sponsor, has collaborated with 32 filmmakers coming from the 32 competing countries, in order to create music films of 90 seconds that represent the way that each country celebrates the FIFA World Cup. All the videos have been put together to create a unique movie called “Samba of the World”. JoyCut’s piece is the one chosen for the Italian video.
Edoardo Lugari has created the Italian film, and JoyCut’s “Italian Samba” matches perfectly with the stories that intertwine in the video. One is that of a young boy playing football with his friends in a small square in Naples, on is a about a young man who works as an electrician and coaches a team of young boys in Rome, and finally there is the story of an older man who is the president of an amateur team in Milan. “Italian Samba” is a clear reference to the music tradition of our country: it opens with a tribute to the violinist Paganini and it evolves around the music of a violin and a mandolin, both very representative of Italy’s music culture.
MtvIggy, Mtv website dedicated to the most promising artists in the world’s music scene, defined the JoyCut as one of the most interesting group on the international music scene. The duo has just come home from a tour around Canada and the States: they played on 39 different stages in just 42 days. Now they have accomplished another great result on the international music scene, by winning their own personal World Cup well before any other team.
