From April 17 to May 1, Cappella Artemisia, a female ensemble of voices and instruments specializing for over 25 years in early music from Italian convents, will be in the United States with a program entitled “INVINCIBLE! 17th-Century Italian Nuns Sing Of Virgins And Martyrs”.
The concert will present works composed by and for cloistered Italian nuns and dedicated to the great women of the Church.
Four musicians from Italy will be joined by 2 Americans for a tour of 6 concerts which will take them to Rhode Island, Oregon, California, Indiana and Pennsylvania.
On June 5, the ensemble will instead be at the Stockholm Early Music Festival with 9 musicians to perform a program created especially for the occasion: “The Nobility and Excellence of Women: Women composers in Italy around 1600”. The title recalls the manifesto of 1601 by the great early feminist, Lucrezia Martinelli.
