From August 15th to 17th the Piccolo Coro Athena, directed by Marco Fanti, together with Chiara Cattani, harpsichordist and fortepiano player, will take part in the 2014 edition of the Hamamatsu World Youth Music Festival. The Piccolo Coro Athena will perform in 3 concerts, one each day (15th, 16th, 17th of August).
The Piccolo Coro Athena is a choral music school founded in 2007 within the Coro Athena of the Archeological Museum of the City of Bologna. It is formed by 15 children, aged 4 to 13 years, and performs a repertoire ranging from pieces of the Piccolo Coro dell’Antoniano formerly conducted by Mariele Ventre, to classic pieces by Mozart, Delibes, Bartók, Britten, Milhaud. The Piccolo Coro has performed in many concerts and also in two “multidisciplinary” musical shows: “Il Parnaso confuso” (The confused Parnassus”) and “Nerone. Alla ricerca della testa perduta” (Nero. In search of the lost head”).
Chiara Cattani, who has recently recorded for TACTUS Records the integral chamber- and solo- music work by Giuseppe Sarti, has been selected as an expert of ancient musical instruments, to get acquainted with the precious instruments of the collection hosted in the prestigious Museum of Music in Hamamatsu.
Last april, Mayor Merola and Mayor Suzuki have signed a cooperation agreement between Bologna and Hamamatsu, in the field of music. Thanks to the new protocol, the two cities have committed themselves to increase their cultural exchanges, involving not only their own institutions but also the music operators, the professional talents and the creative industries, through training programmes and exchange projects. This new agreement with the City of Hamamatsu, which has been recently nominated to become UNESCO Creative City of Music, is for the city of Bologna a great chance to furtherly promote its own musical heritage abroad.
On the 9th June Simona Lembi, President of the City Council, received the Piccolo Coro Athena in the Red Hall of Palazzo d’Accursio where the choir performed a few of their pieces.
