On the occasion of the 55th edition of Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2018, the world’s premium copyright exchange hub as regards publishing and contents for children and young people, scheduled from March 26th to 29th 2018, where China will be the guest of honor country, with the support of the College of China, Bologna launches a call addressed to all Chinese Creative Cities of the network, i.e.: Beijing, Wuhan, Shenzhen and Shanghai creative cities of Design; Qingdao, creative city of Film; Chengdu, Macao and Shunde of Gastronomy; Changsha, of Media Arts; Jingdezhen, Hangzhou and Suzhou of Crafts and Folk Art.
Object of the Call is the selection of a Chinese illustrator/cartoonist/animator to whom it will be offered a residency in Bologna, September/October 2018, lasting about two weeks, aimed at the realization and printing of a little Artist’s book (measuring 18×24 cm closed, 16 black and white pages) that tells about Bologna to the Chinese public, also related to the development of the tourist strategies of the city, and that will be later presented through an exhibition of the original boards in Bologna during the year 2019. The reference model is the project Bologna a testa in su (Bologna head up) by Hamelin, an important local cultural actor, that will be responsible for the organization of the residency and will take care of the publishing project.
The winner will benefit of a return air ticket and accommodation for one person; assistance to obtain the visa, support for the discovery of the city and curatorship of the publication; a fee of € 1,000.00 as a lump sum reimbursement for the expenses incurred during the artistic residency and for the costs afforded during the stay (food, transports, etc..).
The printing of the booklet and the realization of the exhibit will be borne by the Bolognese organizers.
The Focal Points of the Chinese UNESCO creative cities will submit the applications by May 31st, 2018 to the e-mail address firstname.lastname@example.org, attaching max. 10 images and any kind of publication in pdf.; the winner will be selected within June 15th, 2018.
Bologna UNESCO Creative City of Music , thanks to the Creative Cities network, promotes the development of interdisciplinary projects, both at local and international level. Bologna has already cooperated with several creative cities, among them with Shenzhen by participating in two editions of the Design award, and hosting in Bologna creatives of various disciplines, coming from France, New Zealand, Canada, and others.
