The Creative Cities Southern Hui is a multiple day collaborative event, between November 28th and December 2nd 2017, generously sponsored by the NZ National Commission for UNESCO and the University of Otago, offering talks and workshops around the themes of creativity, connection and collaboration. Each event is free and open to all creative minds; an opportunity to foster creative connections through all disciplines and interests. The full programme of guest speakers can be found on the Dunedin UNESCO City of Literature website.
On Thursday 30th November, Creative Connections will feature a wealth of global and local exciting keynote speakers exploring creativity as the touchstone of healthy and sustainable communities. Dunedin is excited to welcome Anna Maria Lorusso, Director of the Masters in Publishing at the University of Bologna and a member of the Board for the Libraries of Bologna Municipality, as guest speaker at Creative Connections, and special delegate for the duration of the Hui.
Prof. Lorusso will give her talk titled Promoting culture in the city: book fairs, libraries and University.
Bologna’s iconic Children’s Book Fair was the starting place for the blossoming creative partnership between the City of Music and Dunedin. In April Dunedin won a complimentary stand at the Fair, after its winning proposal was selected from entries across the Creative Cities Network.
‘This was the exciting beginning of a lovely friendship between our cities and I am really glad that we can build on our partnership and return the hospitality by hosting Anna Maria Lorusso’, says Nicky Page, Director of Dunedin UNESCO City of Literature.
Other Hui events include the University of Otago’s Centre for the Book symposium, the Transitions and Transformations participatory workshop, and the Ara Toi Community Hui. Each event aims to inspire creative enterprise, encourage collaboration and help shape creative communities.
