As part of the ongoing cultural exchanges, mostly in the music field, between Bologna and Leipzig as sister cities, the Youth Orchestra of Bologna Conservatory will be in the German city from 29 to 31 May 2015.
The orchestra will be engaged in three days of concerts, some of which to be performed together with the “Bachs Streicherkinder” Orchestra of the Leipzig Music School, in occasion of the 1000th Anniversary of the City foundation. This important cooperation and mutual exchange between the two music schools will then reach its top with the event “Musikfest für Alle”, taking place on Sunday 31st in the prestigious Gewandhaus hall.
The Director of the Economic Development and City Promotion Department of the City of Bologna, Mr. Mauro Felicori , will be present in representation of the Municipal Government of Bologna.
The Orchestra group from Bologna, performing in Leipzig, includes 66 instrumentalists, aged between 10 and 17 years. This project is a rare occasion for young men and women to enrich their experience of the music field, from basic education to music production. The education activities and the weekly rehearsals are supervised by selected teachers, by the directors and by qualified tutors of the two institutions.
The city of Leipzig, which is Bologna sister city since 1962, is an important music location, being the hometown of Richard Wagner. Also Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn lived there and the city is homing one of the most ancient and famous orchestra in the world: the “Gewandhaus Orchester”.
