Hamamatsu and music
Hamamatsu, Japan, designated in 2015 as a UNESCO Creative City of Music, is a city that historically promotes the production and culture of music thanks to the singular presence of musical instrument companies Yamaha, Kawai and Roland. Drawing on this legacy, the city seeks to understand the relationships that the dimension of sound can develop, what “creative spillovers” there might be, facilitating the fusion of artistic fields and other areas.
Sound Design Festival
In the month of December 2017, Hamamatsu will host the first edition of the Sound Design Festival. The event, focused on “Sound and Beyond”, invites creatives, companies and institutions to investigate the potential of sound in other fields of research like “media arts”, medicine and welfare, through innovative projects and high levels of creativity.
Scheduled to be held on 9-10 December at the Act City Hamamatsu centre and in public spaces throughout the city, the event programme includes an exhibition, workshops, sound installations, lectures and discussions with artists, as well as a symposium on the interaction between sound, therapy, education and art.
