IL NUOVO L’ANTICO
At the Oratory of San Filippo Neri, on September 18, 2019, the musical Festival Il Nuovo l’Antico, part of Bologna Festival, debuts with two different projects: Apologia del Quartetto (Apology of the Quartet) and Bach versus Händel.
APOLOGIA DEL QUARTETTO. From historical avant-gardes to nowadays
Starting from Wednesday 18th, the best Italian quartets, national and international competition winners, will be performing in five concerts, through the literature of the string quartet, from the historical avant-gardes to nowadays. They are: Quartetto Noûs, Quartetto Guadagnini, Quartetto Adorno, Quartetto Lyskamm and MDI Ensemble, playing Webern, Berg, Bartók, Janáček, Zemlinsky, Hindemith, Dutilleux, Ferneyhough, Cage, Carter, Crumb, Kurtág, Ligeti, Holliger, Malipiero, Donatoni, Gervasoni, Vacchi, Stroppa.
All the programs have been specifically commissioned by Bologna Festival.
BACH VERSUS HANDEL. Two parallel lives
Starting from Tuesday 24th, four concerts of vocal and instrumental pages of the two baroque composers, both coming from beyond the Alps. Even if they were both born in the earth of the Lutheran Germany, just one month later, Bach and Händel never met: both masters in contrapuntual writing and in the “cantata”, sonata, concert and oratorio, they had different careers and lifestyles. The ensemble and the soloists invited for these concerts are professionals in these performances: Venexiana, Risonanza Ensemble, the young chamber music group Arsenale Sonoro and the trio of the cellist Elinor Frey, viola player Patxi Montero and cembalist Paola Poncet.
All the concerts will be broadcasted by Rete Toscana Classica, media partner of the festival, on Sunday at 8.30pm and again on Thursday at 6.40pm
CONCERTO: PREMIO DEL PUBBLICO (Public Award)
The Werther Quartet comes back on Tuesday, November 12th, at 8.30pm after being awarded the Premio del Pubblicoas part of the festival Talenti. The selected program is particularly challenging: the romantic Quartetto op. 47 by Schumann and two other compositions rarely performed – Quartettsatz in A-minor by Mahler and Quartet for piano and strings by Copland.
