1666. The Accademia Filarmonica (Philharmonic Academy) was established in Bologna, city with a long musical tradition. This is the time of the great Baroque School which counts, among its most illustrious masters, composers and performers from Bologna who gravitate around the Academy, which captiveted the most outstanding figures in the music field.
350 years later this repertoire is still alive and, thanks to many philological studies in recent years, it is experiencing a second flowering.
This year, for the first time, the Academy realizes master classes dedicated to the Baroque repertoire, boasting the exclusivity of a library capable of offering some valuable works by authors now forgotten, but who have been the educational and composition representative for countless students in the past.
Daniele Proni will be the Artistic director, also giving classes of harpsichord and ensemble music. Teachers of other classes will be: Romina Basso (baroque singing), Luca Giardini (violin and viola), Rosita Ippolito (viola da gamba), Diego Cantalupi (lute, archlute and baroque guitar), Paolo Pollastri (oboe) and Jonathan Pia (trumpet). The musicological tutoring will be undertaken by Francesco Lora, Piero Mioli and Romano Vettori.
The aim of this course will be also to perform concerts dedicated to the repertoire of the individual instruments, in addition to the first performance in modern times of an oratorio of the Bolognese School.
Not to mention that the course will focus on the manuscripts from the library of the Academy, that composers wrote or donated specifically for the Association since 1666 (esperimenti).
The master classes will be held from 5 -14 September, 2016 at the headquarters of the Philharmonic Academy of Bologna and will include an overall training course, with music ensemble rehearsals and a musicological comparative tutoring in order to better study the baroque repertoire, especially the music performed.
UNITATE MELOS, the Academy’s motto to emphasize the importance of music in relations as universal language, will be the name of the new Ensemble of baroque music that will be created after the project to promote what thought, designed and executed during the courses.
Concerts on 10th, 12th and 14th September, 8 pm at Accademia Filarmonica (tickets at the door).
The birth of the ensemble, the critical edition and performances want to be the first steps towards a long and still largely unknown story.
