On Wednesday 18th September, at 5.30 pm, Bart Maris’s trumpet had ideally open UNESCO Meeting of Creative Cities, welcoming the delegations in the City Hall Courtyard. The concert was repeated on Thursday at 3.00 pm, 5.00 pm and 7.00 pm.
“City Soundloops” is the title of the performance: a dozen of old tape recorders that serve as self-conducted orchestra for the artists. They’re furnished with prerecorded trumpet loops with sound fragments of all UNESCO music cities, recreated on trumpet and other brass. They lay the background for the trumpet soloist of Bart Maris, who interacts with this ever changing melting pot of sound. A confrontation of human and machines, this a splendid sound canvas of old tape machines that enchant the eyes, and the trumpet player wandering through it and manipulating the sound, while he performs this concert for trumpet and machines.
The presence of Bart Maris, Belgian trumpet player and Guest Professor of improvisation at School of Arts of Gent, renews the collaboration between Bologna and Gent, UNESCO Creative City of Music.
