The winners of this year’s edition of the “2 agosto” International Composing Competition, promoted by the “Associazione Familiari Vittime della Strage alla Stazione di Bologna del 2 Agosto 1980”, the “Comitato di Solidarietà alle Vittime delle Stragi” in collaboration with the Fondazione ATER Formazione and the Fondazione Teatro Comunale di Bologna, have been announced last July 4th.
The jury, chaired by the Spanish composer Jesùs Rueda, awarded the first prize to the Russian composer Ilya Demutsky, the second to the Syrian Zaid Jabry, the third to the American Scott M. Ninmer. There have been also two special mentions to the scores presented by Chris Gendall, from New Zealand, and Adriano Gaglianello, from Italy.
The three winning scores prove once more tha the Competition has new reached a very high international dimension for contemporary music composition. The applications recevied this year were actually more than forty and came from all over the world.
The winning compositions – all for soloist voice and orchestra, as the call required– will be executed the 2nd of August, in the wonderful setting of Piazza Maggiore as usual, by the Bologna Municipal Theater, directed by José Ramon Encinar.
The concert will go live on RAI Radio3 and the recording will be broadcasted by RAI Tre television.
